The Socialist Alternative

To those who have faith in Marxist ideology are mostly unanimous on the real and ultimate objective of the anti-globalization struggle on the question of socialist alternative. Many alternatives are being suggested by divisive forces from the platform of anti-globalization movement. Whatever may be the merits or demerits of these proposed alternatives, Marxists do understand the incoherence and some impracticability of these alternatives. None of the authors whose volumes are under discussion systematically disown about the alternatives except James Petra ad Henry Voltmeyer in the volume Globalization unmasked. No doubt they have successfully and systematically unmasked Globalization.

But what socialist objective? They proposed objective is also socialism,. But the manner in which they have presented the topic as many excellent merits but all may not agree with some other points they have made. So all these excellent merits or some demerits are not subject of discussion here. The issue is being discussed at various level by the international communist movement. And these discussions and consultations will obviously continue. Meanwhile Marxist parties in their countries are advancing the cause of socialism according to their own understanding and national objectivity.

But this is a period of ‘Irreversible Cries’ of World Capitalism (see Paul M.Sweezy and Henry Magdaff) and there is no doubt about it.

And truly, ‘The revolt against this new phase of imperialism,’ arising out of the irreversible cries, ‘however, has clearly only just begun. Most of the population of the world knows what US pundits conveniently forget , that US imperialism resembles the exploitative experiences of the past, and will likely suffer the same fate as past empires –growing revolt from within and “barbarous” at the gats’ (John Bellary Foster. The Rediscovery of Inspection in Imperialism and Globalization by Henry Magdoff, Cornerstore Publications, India, p.16).

In his speech on 25 February, 2003 at Kerala Lumpen before the heads of States or Government of the Non-aligned Movement. Fiedel Castro quoted US President in his speech on June 1,2002 before the graduating cadets deminishly exhosting the cadets, ‘Our security will require transforming the mobility you lead, a mobility that must be ready to strike at a moment’s notice in any dark corner of the world….’.

Castro commented, ‘That statement was not made by the Government of a small and weak nation, but by the leader of the richest and mightiest military power that has even existed, the same that posses thousands of nuclear weapons – enough to obliterate the world population several times over…..’

‘That is what we are:  “Dark Corners of the World “ That is the perception some have of the Third World nations. Never before had anyone offered a better definition; no one had shown much despite’

The radicals, leftists and communists the world over have the historic responsibility of carrying forward the parliamentary, extra-parliamentary and revolutionary struggles against imperialist globalization and the most reckless imperialism the world has ever seen.

The authors ion these volumes under discussion have brilliantly unmasked globalization. Some of the has set forth the task of the revolutionary forces also. But the fundamental  question  remains of at a socialist alternative to this international situation. We will end our discussion quoting what Petra and Veltmeyor reminded,

“The fundamental pattern is to turn sectoral movements into national political formation, capable of turning regional struggles into social revolutions. The end of the millennium brought intense hardships, heightened social polarities and new forms of state repression. The new millennium can be a prelude for the rebuilt of socialism, but the path is likely to be long at torturous  ‘ (p.91). Revolt from the womb of the heart, though still inceptions is bound to grow along with its globalization is bound to crumble through the process may be ‘long and torturous’.

Conclusion

Everybody will not agree with every point made in these volumes. But the authors have mercilessly unmasked Globalization and ……………….     ……………. designs. The volume constitute a damning charge sheet against Globalization.
